| Another thrilling “Battle For Bragging Rights” occurred
again as the annual West Genny Middle vs. Camillus Middle
School showdown went down to the wire. In the end it
was CMS coming out on top with the slim 5-4 victory,
their second in a row over WGMS to improve to 2-1 on
the season.
CMS controlled the pace early jumping out to a quick
2-0 advantage behind the efforts of the "M & M
offense" consisting of Matt McCabe, Ryan McConnell,
Evan Mazzoni and Eric Mazzoni. Coach Eric Howes team
ran a patient attack against the tough WGMS defensive
unit waiting for the right moment to strike, and through
a nice backside play they took an early advantage until
WGMS finally stopped it.
On the other side, WGMS’s run-and-gun offense
tallied 4 goals on the day behind strong play of PJ
Hart, Jordan Rodgers and Tyler Brown along with 5 pipes
that could have swung the end result. Steve Mahle played
brilliantly for WGMS racking up 10 saves between the
pipes against the potent CMS attack. With the loss,
WGMS dropped to 2-1 on the season. |
