Cats turn out the lights on Black Knights 10 - 1

The West Genesee Wildcats defeated the Henninger Black Knights at West Genesee Highschool on a chilly Wednesday evening 10-1f or their sixth victory of the season. It was the second meeting between the two teams this year with the Cats taking both games by a combined score of 24-3.

The first quarter saw a total of only three goals as the Knights sought to keep the explosive Cats at bay circulating the ball outside the perimeter searching for the perfect shot, only problem? Genny defenders Sean Leahy, Jaren Woeppel, Steve Prosonic and goalie Dan McKeon would have none of it. West Genny's initial effort, a shot by senior Mark Cometti at 11:29 was saved by Henninger goalie Mike Wesche which led to the Knights first possession that lasted nearly two minutes. The initial series ended when Henninger's Taylor Bottar took a long shot that McKeon easily snared and started the outlet that eventually led to the first goal of the game 1-0 by Cats senior middie Tim griffin at 9:07.

Henninger then strayed from their stall-game one of the few times during the evening tying the game at 1-1 just over a minute later at 8:03 on a goal by Jeff Jackson with an assist to Dan Casciano. West Genny ended the scoring 2-1 in the first quarter with a goal by middie  Rob Chamberlin at 3:50 with a left handed shot that eluded Wesche's stick and settled in the lower left hand corner of the cage. The second quarter was much the same as the first as the Black Knights continued to aimlessly hold the ball just outside of  the Cats defensive perimeter which amounted to few scoring opportunities. However middie Chuck Cometti made the most of his turn after being nearly decapitated with an errant stick extending the Cat's lead to 3-1 with a right hander at 3:31

The half did end with a picture perfect goal 4-1 that went in with no time left on the game clock with a goal by attackman Dave Osier. The Cats moved the ball down below Wesche's right where attackman Tim Spillet passed to Cometti who then found Oseir to the right of the goal. Osier took Cometti's feed and posted it in the upper right corner of the cage with no time on the clock.

Genny owned the third quarter with a succession of three goals to take a commanding 7-1 lead. Middie Alex Vecchio made it 5-1 at 6:52 with a bouncer into the goal. Spillet made it 6-1 taking a great pass from Cometti at 3:36 to increase the lead. Then it was middie Brian Griffin's turn getting another assist from Cometti to make the score 7-1 with just 1:13 to go.

The fourth quarter saw Griffin pick up where he left off getting an assist from Mark Cizenski at 9:19 to make the score 8-1. Spillett added his second of the game at 9:12 to give the Cats a 9-1 lead.Senior longstick John Keuchler capped the scoring with an assist from Kevin Courtney with 3:41 left giving the Cats a 10-1 win.
