Cats
Topple Timon 15-2
The West Genesee Wildcats hosted section VI Bishop Timon St. Jude on Saturday
before a hearty but sparse crowd at West Genesee Highschool as the Cats 3-0 (10-0)
iced their opponents with a 15-2 victory.
The Cats weren't very welcoming hosts as they cruised to a 6-0 lead. Senior
middie Brian Griffin got Genny rolling 1-0 with a right handed laser just under
two minutes in 10:51 with an assist from senior middie partner Mark Cometti.
Genny's attack combo off seniors Dave Osier, Tim Spillet and Jeff Ryan executed
a Wildcat favorite as their one touch passing led to Ryan's wide open shot for
a 2-0 lead at 7:17. West Genny then took advantage of a man up situation with
Timons serving a minute for a slash. Junior middie Rob Chamberlin wasted little
time taking a Spillet feed and tucking it neatly in the bottom left corner of
the cage at 3:51 for a 3-0 lead. Cometti ended the first quarter for the Cats
with an unassisted tally extending the Cats lead to 4-0.
The second quarter began with dejavu all over again as Osier, Spillet and Ryan
connected again with Ryan ending as the benefactor netting Genny's fifth goal
less then two minutes in at 10:08 for a 5-0 lead. Osier made it 6-0 with 6:44
left in the second quarter this time the recipient of a Spillet feed depositing
a shot wide open in front.
Timons retaliated with their first of the game 6-1, 6:16 with a goal from junior
attackman Brendan Donovan who made a nice move from behind the cage, shook his
defender and snuck a shot over the left shoulder of senior Wildcat goalie Dan
Mckeon.
Genny answered Timons at 3:25 when senior defender Sean Leahy brought the ball
down field and found Osier wide open in front of the Timons goal. Osier wasted little
effort netting the Cats a 7-1 lead. Ryan then ended the first half onslaught
with his third of the half converting another assist by Osier for an 8-1 advantage.
The third quarter began with Timons a man down with a slashing penalty, the Cats
took advantage with Griffin and Cometti hooking up again as Griffin converted
a Cometti pass for a 9-1 lead at 10:05. At 8:27 it was once again the duo of
Spillett and Osier with Spillett netting his first of the game for a 10-1 lead.
Sophomore Colin Donahue came off the bench late in the third and helped give
the Cats a 11-1 lead as Osier continued to find his open mates with 4:46 to go.
Osier was finally on the receiving end this time with an assist to freshman Ryan
barber with 2:23 to go giving the Cats a 12-1 lead.
The final quarter began with underclassmen Barber and Donahue combining for a
pretty goal as Donahue passed from behind the cage to a cutting Barber for a
13-1 advantage at 11:16. Timons added one last goal in the fourth, but that was
followed by Donahue's second of the game with 5:02 left to make the score 14-2.
Finally it was senior middie Kevin Joy netting the final goal with just 2:28
to go giving the Cat's their 10 win of the season 15-2. |
