Cats Turnout Lights on Black Knights 20-3

The West Genesee Wildcats (12-3) cruised to an easy victory at home on the carpet at West Genesee stadium Friday night with a 20-3 decision over the Black Knights of Rome Free Academy.

Genny started quickly netting six unanswered goals in the first quarter. The first an unassisted goal by senior captain, midfielder Luke Cometti with a goal at 11:23 to make it 1-0. Less than a minute later it was junior midfielder Ryan McConnell at 10:51to make it 2-0. At 8:38 Cometti found the twine a second time to make it 3-0. Then it was junior midfielder Jim Marks with an unassisted goal with 5:45 to go adding to the Cats lead 4-0.

The Cats next goal consisted of some nice team work that started when senior defenseman Ben Waldron started the clear, passed to sophomore midfielder ‘Cali’ John Glesner, who found senior attackman Matt Lebduska, who crossed caged a feed to senior attackman Garrett Ryan who one timed it past the out manned goalie for a 5-0 lead. Tim Besio senior midfielder added the Cats final goal of the quarter with 1:58 to go increasing the Genny advantage to 6-0.

The second quarter mimicked the first as Genny added six more scores to the tally sheet. At 9:24 it was junior midfielder Conor Regin with an unassisted goal to make it 7-0. With 5:44 left in the half Glesner netted another unassisted goal for a 8-0 lead.
The Black Knights broke the Cats stranglehold with their first goal at 5:14 of the second half to cut the lead to 8-1.

However RFA’s goal only reignited the Cats who ran off four in a row in the last four minutes of the half. Junior attackman Ike Hopper made it 9-1 with 4:40 to go with an assist to senior attackman Mike Fetterly. Besio added his second with 2:40 left to make it 10-1.McConnell added his second of the half 11-1 with 2:12 to go. With just 12 seconds left in the half it was junior attackman Matt Mcabe taking an assist from Besio closing out the scoring giving Genny a 12-1 lead.

The Cats would continue to roll building leads of 17-2 and 20-3 while out shooting the Knights 42 - 7 on the way towards a 20-3 victory.
