Wildcats Whack Warriors
11-6
The West Genesee boy's varsity
lacrosse team (13-2) captured their second straight
win in a row against the Liverpool Warrior (8-8) at
West Genesee High school by a score of 11-6.
Liverpool began the game scoring the first two goals
of the quarter. The first at 9:20 by junior
middie Ryan McGraw with an assist to long stick middie
Kevin Murphy 1-0. Liverpool then followed up with their
second in a row 2-0 Justin Rowley when junior attackman
was assisted by junior midfielder Tyler Long. With
the Pool seemingly having the early upper hand it was
the Cats junior attackman Brian Donahue getting Genny
back into the fray with the first of two consecutive
goals. The first came with just 2:18 to go unassisted
to cut the lead to 2-1. Less than a minute later at
1:19 Donahue struck again converting an assist from
sophomore middie Luke Cometti knotting the score at
2-2 to end the quarter.
The Cats opened the second quarter with pair of goals
compliments of another Donahue as junior attackman
Collin Donahue scored his first at 10:27, 3-2
with an assist from junior middie Joe Pompo, Donahue
then added his second 4-2 less than a minute later
9:53 with an assist from junior middie Tim Desko.
With Genny assuming control of the game the Pool began
to assert itself as senior middie Armando Bevard nearly
cut the lead to a single goal if not for a point blank
save by the Cats junior goalie John Galloway. However
moments later at 5:15 Galloway wouldn't fare as well
as Bevardo found himself alone in front of the goal
and took a pass from junior middie Tyler Long and made
the score 4-3. Liverpool then tied the score 4-4 as
Galloway made an initial save on junior attackman Justin
Rowley, but junior middie Ryan McGraw raked in the
rebound and put it back in the goal before Galloway
could react.
The final three minutes of the half belonged to West
Genny as junior defenseman Chris Aubertine used a long
clear to senior middie Scott Cost who went to the Pool
net untouched and put a right handed shot past junior
goalie Michael Grizanti with 3:34 to put the Cats up
5-4. It was Cost again with 1:27 on a solo effort as
his shot to the bottom left corner of the goal eluded
Grizanti and the Cats were up 6-4. West Genny's final
goal of the half 7-4 came as time expired when senior
attackman Robbie Farchione redirected a pass from senior
middie Matt Grogan.
The Cats continued to roll in the third netting the
only three goals of the quarter. The first at 8:23
came on a spectacular grab by senior defenseman Jaren
Woeppel who extended his long pole fully on a dead
run to snare a long clear by Galloway. Without breaking
stride Woeppel found junior attackman Adam Mazzoni
who put the ball in the Pool net 8-4. Collin Donahue
then added his third of the game 9-4 at 7:17 when he
converted a skip pass over the Liverpool defense from
sophomore middie Luke Cometti.
With just 1:30 left in the quarter Collin Donahue
added his fourth goal unassisted to give the Cats a
10-4 lead. Quarter number four began the way the third
had ended as Collin Donahue was at it again this time
with an assist to senior attackman Chris Schmidt with
7:16 left to go giving West Genesee an 11-4 lead that
they would not relinquish. Liverpool did have a brief
spurt late in the fourth adding two more goals but
it was to little to late for the Pool as they dropped
their second of the year to the Cats. |
