Wildcats Take 40th Straight

The West Genesee Wildcats captured their 40th straight Class A lacrosse contest with a 7-2 victory at home over the visiting Henninger Black Knights.

The Black Knights struck early 1-0 just 1:38 into the game on a goal from sophomore attackman Timm Rommel then used a ball control offense to keep the Cats at bay. West Genny finally answered the Knights 1-1 with just 10 seconds left in the first quarter with junior attackman Adam Mazzoni converting a pass from junior attackman Collin Donahue.

The Cats then took their first lead of the contest 2-1with just 2:39 to go in the half when senior middie Kevin Courtney took a pass from senior attackman Chris Schmidt and stuck it in the upper left hand corner of the goal. Mazzoni then added his second of the game 3-1 with another assist from Schmidt, his second of the half with 1:39 to go.

There was just three seconds left  in the half the when the Cats would increase their lead to 4-1 with Schmidt assisting again with a pass to sophomore middie Luke Cometti who stuck a left handed bounce shot in the net. Genny increased their lead with the only two goals of the  third quarter. Scott Cost added to the Cats advantage 5-1 when he ripped a shot just inside the restraing line with an assist to Collin Donahue with 3:29 to go .Courtney added his second of the game with 1:47 left on a second consecutive assist from Donahue to go up 6-1.

The final Cats marker was added again by Cost, his second of the game 7-1 with 11:07 left in the game to give the Genny all the breathing room needed for victory.
